One thing you should watch is that it sometimes mis-identifies outgoing IP
packets and sets its filter to a silly number (in my case, two garbage bytes
followed by the first two bytes of the real ip address). This means you may see
short periods of network silence (i.e. until another correctly parsed ip
packet is sent).

Watch sheep_net's kernel messages for a clue as to what it's actually doing.
