Altivec disabled?

For some time now, when I start MOL, I see the following message:

********* of_quiesce *********
AltiVec is disabled
AltiVec is disabled

but Altivec is enabled in my molrc. Does this mean that MOL isn't
using Altivec, and if not, how can I convince it too.

Currently I'm running 0.9.60 (rsync) on 2.4.6, but I saw this message
for at least the last couple of kernels and MOL versions. So it
works, but I'm curious.
