Installing MOL

I could never get the version of MOL (0.9.60-5b) included in the Yellow Dog
2.3 CD to work. I downloaded 0.9.64-2 and had kernel (2.4.19-4a) conflict
problems. Neither rebuilding the rpm or compiling the tar of k-mol would
work because of gcc problems. I believe that I now have all of the correct
gcc parts installed, however, I still get "install or config problem -
compiler cannot create executables".
In frustration I decided to punt. I uninstalled 0.9.64-2 and reinstalled
0.9.60 from the Yellow Dog CD. I also loaded a clean copy of Mac OS ROM
into the Mac System folder. Startmol -a --test says mol OK. startmol -a
gets a smiling Mac (finds the Mac 9.0.4 system) but then freezes and a
gizzilion messages "RVEC_UNUSUAL_DSISR_BITS: dar00000000, dsisr0010000" run
through the console. I have to reboot to stop it. I wish there was
another way to stop it so that I could go back and read any earlier
messages.
Does anyone know why:
1. The gcc compiler won't create executables?
2. mol 0.9.60 runs away?
