Trouble with MOL

I'm having difficulty getting MOL to recognize my CDs... I've tried with the
MacOS 9 CD that came with my iMac, released shortly before they stopped
allowing bootable OS9 (startmol --newworld --cdboot) and a new Panther CD
(startmol -X --cdboot). It has the error message

ioctl: CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS: Invalid argument

as well as complaining that "no bootable disk was found."

The contents of molrc and molrc-osx (both identical) are the following two
lines:

blkdev: /dev/scd0 -cd --boot
blkdev: /dev/hda5 -rw -force

It seems to be ignoring my designation of /dev/scd0 as my DVD-ROM drive; it
has the line "CD /dev/cdrom CD-ROM <read-only> ------
BOOT1." Might this be the problem?

Thank you,
Misty De Meo
