iMac rev. A video timings

Hi, I have a problem with video timings...

On my iMac rev. A I can only get 1024x768 working fullscreen (75Hz,
8/16bit). When I use molvconfig to try the other two supported modes
(800x600 90Hz, 640x480 117Hz) my iMac's screen goes into standby mode.
None of the "imac" section modes work BTW, only one of the "misc" modes
(going into standby classifies as "not working" for me :-).
Configuration is Mandrake Linux 9.1 PPC, mol 0.9.68, Mac OS 9.2.1, ATI
Rage IIc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I want to play Diablo II in
640x480 ;-)
