I've been given to understand that there are, in fact, developed (or at 
least developing) filesystem drivers for OS X to read the ext2 and ext3 
filesystems. I know one is called ext2fsx, which is available at 
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ext2fsx/ . I believe there may be more - 
Google is your friend, so make use of it. I've been told that the 
current versions can eat your ext2/ext3 filesystems though, so use with 
care.
