empty OS9 desktop

Hello there mol users,	
	I am running Ubuntu linux (kernel 2.6.8)on a G3 500Mhz iMac dvse. So I
am having a go at getting mol going (ver 0.9.70). I have compiled the
kernel modules as outlined on the Ubuntu howto page:

I have run the video and keyboard configuration tools and when I
startmol the OS9 system is found and started with my background
appearing with the time in the corner but then everything seems to stop.
No icons on the desktop, no items in the menu bar. The keyboard does not
deem to do any thing either. Below is the terminal listing. I suspect
that I should chase:
 Could not open '/var/lib/mol/x11.kbd'
I would welcome any sugestions
