The MOL kernel module is not loaded

I encounter this unfortunate error using mol 0.9.70 & linux 
2.6.12-rc4-mm2 -

- even though the module _IS_ loaded -


fis% lsmod | grep mol
mol                    61792  0
fis%


- & the mol device exists -


fis% ls -l /dev/mol
crw-------  1 root jablko 10, 62 Nov 13  2004 /dev/mol
fis%


I glanced at the source & can't think why "_get_mol_mod_version" / 
"_get_info" would fail

I'm interested in debugging this problem - & getting mol working again! 
- but I'm out of ideas for now. Anyone else suggest how to approach 
fixing this problem?

I happily used mol with linux 2.6.9 for almost six months
