TERRA SOFT SOLUTIONS' YELLOW DOG LINUX SHIPS WITH MOTOROLA'S SANDPOINT
EVALUATION BOARD FOR POWERPC(r) PROCESSOR PLATFORMS
Loveland, Colorado -- 21 October 2003 -- Terra Soft Solutions, Inc., the
leading developer of integrated PowerPC Linux solutions, today announced that
its Yellow Dog Linux is shipping with Motorola's Sandpoint evaluation board
as part of an enhanced system package for Motorola PowerPC(r) processor-based
systems.
"We have enjoyed a relationship with the Terra Soft team for a few years,
watching Yellow Dog Linux gain a diverse, professional user base," said Chuck
Corley, director of applications engineering for Motorola's Computing
Platforms Division. "At this juncture, the inclusion of Yellow Dog Linux with
Sandpoint demonstrates Yellow Dog's integrity, our customers' desire to use
Linux as a development operating system, and the appropriateness of Yellow
Dog Linux as an OS for Motorola's PowerPC processor-based prototype
development systems."
The Sandpoint evaluation system demonstrates the capabilities of Motorola
PowerPC processors. It is an ideal platform for software development and
debug, as well as for hardware development. Enhanced Sandpoint evaluation
systems for PowerPC processor-based Linux development are also available,
with the Yellow Dog Linux box set from Terra Soft Solutions included.
"We could not be more pleased and proud that Motorola has embraced Yellow Dog
Linux in this fashion. The combination of the proven Sandpoint evaluation
board with Yellow Dog Linux offers Motorola's customers a comprehensive OS on
which to develop and enable seamless host to target code migration. We are
confident that many powerful, unique OEM designs will come from this combined
offering," stated Kai Staats, co-founder and CEO Terra Soft Solutions.
The Sandpoint evaluation system provides an example that can be used in
designing other systems based on implementations of the PowerPC instruction
set architecture, and a platform for developing and debugging Linux and other
software for these processors and associated bridge chips.
The motherboard inside the Sandpoint evaluation system is an ATX form factor
with PCI Mezzanine (PMC) connectors that accept a processor module. Each PMC
includes at least 64MByte of SDRAM. 'DINK32' debug monitor software is also
provided with the system.
The Valis X3 MPC7457 PMC Module (Part No. PPCDEV-SP3-7457) is a PCI Mezzanine
Card (PMC) with the MPC7457 host processor option for the Sandpoint X3
motherboard. This version of the Sandpoint motherboard is preconfigured with
Yellow Dog Linux on an included IDE hard disk. Similarly, Unity X4 MPC8245
PMC Module (PPCDEV-SP3-8245) is a pre-configured Linux Sandpoint X3
Motherboard with the MPC8245 processor.
