TERRA SOFT EXTENDS HPC OFFERINGS WITH IBM p5 SERVERS
LOVELAND, Colorado, - 6 June 2006 - Terra Soft Solutions, leading provider of
high performance, integrated solutions built upon the Power architecture
today announced the addition of the IBM p5 to its turn-key offerings.
For the past four years Terra Soft has provided PowerPC solutions as a
top-tier Apple Proprietary Solutions provider, Value Added Reseller. Terra
Soft is capitalizing upon its expertise with the Power architecture by adding
IBM Power products, including BladeCenter JS21, OpenPower, and now the p5
series servers.
The p5 line-up starts with the p5 185 tower, a 32/64-bit replacement for the
Apple G5 PowerMacs running Linux. The 505, 510, 520 offer dual and quad core,
64-bit configurations in 1U, 2U, and 4U rackmounts with a variety of
on-board, high-throughput storage options. Higher-end p5 systems offer as
many as 64 cores in a single configuration with massive on-board storage and
I/O options.
"We are improving our Power architecture offerings with the addition of the
IBM p5 systems. As showcased in the Top500.org, Power holds a prominent 14%
of the 2005 list. This bodes well for Terra Soft's historic and current plays
in the HPC space. In particular, the 64-bit memory addressing of the p5 is
well suited for the large data sets associated with bioinformatics and Y-Bio,
our suite of tools for gene sequence analysis," states Greg Creamer, VP Sales
Terra Soft Solutions.
Terra Soft has for four years maintained a high profile customer base,
building mission critical, HPC systems for the Departments of Defense and
Energy built upon Yellow Dog Linux and Apple G4/G5 systems. The embrace of
IBM p5 series substantiates Terra Soft's dedication to the Power architecture
and steadfast recognition of an improving HPC architecture.
Now in development, Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 is being built against the Fedora
Core 5 foundation with support for the JS21, OpenPower, and p5 series
products. Also in development, Y-HPC v2.0 will enable rapid cluster
construction and powerful management of heterogeneous configurations,
including the IBM BladeCenter and p5 systems.
