INDUSTRY FIRST H.264 ENCODER FOR PS3 RUNNING YDL
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, 20 April - Fixstars is showcasing the CodecSys CE-10, the
industry's first H.264 encoder for PLAYSTATION3, at the NAB show in Las
Vegas, Nevada, from Booth SU432 of Broadcast International.
NAB is one of the world's largest broadcasting trade shows and is being held
at the Las Vegas Convention Center, April 20-23.
The CE-10 encoding software for PS3 utilizes the revolutionary CodecSys
technology jointly developed by Broadcast International and Fixstars. It
enables professional level encoding on the PS3 hardware platform and delivers
CodecSys high quality low bit rate compression, amazing performance, and all
of the advantages of a software based encoder.
Compared to other video codecs, H.264 video compression technology achieves
incredible video quality from the smallest amount of video data, saving
bandwidth and storage. H.264 compression efficiency is ideal for a broad
range of applications, such as broadcast, Blu-ray disk, video-on-demand,
streaming and multimedia messaging.
CE-10 on a PS3 running Yellow Dog Linux is available for a hands-on
demonstration, along with new members to the CodecSys product family
CE-100/200 for GA-180 and CE-1000 for the IBM QS21 blade servers.
Kai Staats, COO for Fixstars Solutions states, "This unique product offering
marks Fixstars entry into the commercial digital media market. The CE-10
CodecSys for PS3 combines Fixstars' expertise in Linux operating system
development with optimization for Cell, achieving an industry first. The
result is a low-cost, high-quality offering for a wide range of video
prosumers who require fast, efficient, simple to use H.264 compression. As
CE-10 runs entirely from a bootable, live CD or USB stick, neither the users'
workstation nor Sony PS3 requires hardware modification. It's astonishingly
simple."
The CodecSys CE product family offers the H.264 software encoder on a wide
range of hardware that cost-effectively address the bandwidth crisis, with
the CE-100 basic model and the CE-200 providing real-time encoding for
captured video. The CE-1000 is designed for broadcasters who require
multi-channel. The CodecSys CE-10 for PS3 offers the H.264 encoding software
in an affordable form factor making it the most accessible product in the HD
encoding realm.
From the showfloor, Fixstars will distribute FREE evaluation copies of
CodecSys CE-10 bootable CD for PS3, enabling accelerated H.264 rendering and
professional quality encoding. Visit the Fixstars kiosk in the Broadcast
International SU 4326 booth for a demonstration and receive your free
evaluation copy.
