Playing DVD's

I have read somewhere in these lists, that someone was having problems 
playing DVD's
 on his/her computer. What I want to know is HOW to play a DVD on my 
computer.
 is the DVD player included in the install disk? and what is it called?

Also what are the system requirments for running a DVD player?
My desktop  is a B/W G3 400mhz 640megs ram and the  DVD player that came 
with the unit
 it has the ATI Rage 128 with the HW decoder card

My laptop is one  of the newer 500mhz iBooks with the  DVD "Combo" drive and
 256megs ram
