Kernel compile aborts in make bzImage

Running YDL 2.2 in KDE on an iMac Rev. B/160MB RAM.

In order to try a few different Ethernet card drivers
(the BMAC doesn't let me configure speed/duplex and
autonegotiation), I wat to compile a kernel with a few
drivers as modules.

I am configuring in the Linux Kernel Configurator,
putting the .config file in /usr/src/Linux and run
make dep, make clean and then make bzImage.

I have tried three times each time with different
choices in the configurator (once with default
settings) and it always stops at the same point:

drivers/sounddrivers/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x10a8):undefined
reference to `pmac_xpram_read'
drivers/sounddrivers/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x10a8):relocation
tgruncated to fit: R_PPC_REL24 pmac_xpram_read
drivers/macintosh/macintosh.o: in function
`cuda_input':
drivers/macintosh/macintosh.o(.text+0x1738): undefined
reference to `adb_input'
drivers/macintosh/macintosh.o(.text+0x10a8):relocation
tgruncated to fit: R_PPC_REL24 adb_input
drivers/video/video.o: in function `vgacon_startup':
drivers/video/video.o(.text.init+0x42): undefined
reference to `dummy_con'
drivers/video/video.o(.text.init+0x46): undefined
reference to `dummy_con'
drivers/video/video.o(.text.init+0x4a): undefined

make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

and gcc exits.

What's missing? Reinstall kernel source? Different
configuration of .config?

One thing: the README file says I would need
gcc-2.91.66 but on the disk came 2.95.4 - is this the
problem?
