USB printing problem

I tried to find a list of what Epson printers you can use on YDL without
CUPS but couldn't find it on the YDL page. The Epson 1200 may not be
supported with printconf. I know mine (a Photo 700) isn't, oh well.
CUPS is the software that has always worked for me and Epson printers.
The YDL page has a a how-to for installing and configuring. To be
honest I've never been impressed by the actual drivers CUPS provides.
They never got my colors right and were generic. The gimp-print drivers
work well with CUPS. They will probably have an Epson 1200 driver since
they have supported more obscure printers too. And they do list the 1200
as fully operational.
If you go for the CUPS drivers then I really would recommend the extra
effort of installing the gimp-print drivers too. You can grab the
source from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net Just be sure to filter
through the readme files so that you actually compile the CUPS drivers.
I remember they weren't a default setting in the past.
