unable to mount cdrom

Make sure there is a symbolic link between /dev/cdrom and /dev/hdb.
Also make sure your /etc/fstab file has an entry similar to this:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 owner,exec,dev,suid,ro,auto 0 0
Make sure the /mnt/cdrom mount point exists as well.
