XFree KDE3 Sudden Death

I am experiencing a wierd problem with YDL 2.3, XFree86 4.2.0, KDE3.
Running on PowerMac G4/733 DVD with the Geforce 2MX graphics card.
Running custom compiled 2.4.19 with the riva frame buffer patches.
Running the fbdev XFree Driver.

XFree works fine as long as I don't leave windows open on the X desktop when I 
am using other virtual consoles (including MOL). If any window receives an 
update while X is not the current virtual console X crashes.

This only started happening after I upgraded KDE to 3

I haven't noticed the same problem when using the nv XFree driver (for which I 
have to use video=ofonly kernel argument)

I am still waiting for riva and nv drivers which will work with each other,
Working accellerated riva console driver in the core kernel.
nv driver which does not lock up if X is restarted.
Things have been very quiet on the NVidia drivers for a while.
