I know that Neill Miller has claimed to get reasonable performance
watching DVDs with xine on a similar setup.

It may be as simple as specifying:

	Driver  "r128"

in the Section "Device" of your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.  If that
doesn't do it maybe someone with the same type of hardware can send
you their working /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.

I don't know about this one as I've never tried to use the Gatos
drivers.
