Installing 2.3 on dual 800 MHz

Hi, I hope this is the right list to post to:

I'm attempting to install YDL 2.3 on a Dual 800 MHz G4, with an Nvidia
GeForce 2 card.

When I boot from the cd, I enter "install-gui video=ofonly". When it opens
the installer, it's the "old-school" one, with all the bright colors,
without a windowed-GUI. But when I boot from the CD on an iMac, it opens the
GUI installer in X just fine, with the YDL-like windows...

It installs fine and everything on the G4, but after I reboot, it shows a
text-only screen asking me to login, except this screen keeps blinking.
After about a minute, it says something's respawning too fast, and it
disables it... I think I've narrowed this problem down to the graphics card.

I've been able to boot into X once, but that was only with 8 bit color,
which looks pretty bad.

So, is there a way to get all this working, so when I start her up, it goes
directly to the KDE login screen, with 24 or 32 bit color?

Maybe there's a tutorial out there for installing YDL with Nvidia cards?

I'm really not sure what I should do...
