New Nov ibook 2002 Cant get XFree86 to Start

I finally got it to work.. now after installing the kernel i noticed 
there was no modules folder in the file i downloaded... im kinda of a 
linux newbie and am not sure if i even need the module folder..

i tried to run depmod -a and received tons of errors. I named the 
modules folder modules/2.4.20-rc4-ben0

Everything seems to be working great except i have no sound

How do i go about getting the sound back??
