CD Players

Everything works except for one little detail-
No sound.
Sound is working. I played with the KDE mixer, and every other volume control I could find. Everything else works, just not the CD. I tried both the KDE and Gnome players, same results. The players are interacting with the drive,  and picking up track info. The drive spins and the counters count, but no sound comes out. (Wallstreet Powerbook)
Any ideas?
