OS X to Linux transition - Help needed!

Well, xemacs is certainly a bit of a learning curve (as far as
configuring anyway), and even though I feel fairly competent with it,
I'm daily finding things I don't know/understand.

Tramp is something relatively new to me. But there is a sourceforge
site for it, http://tramp.sourceforge.net, that has a lot of info. It
took some messing around with variables to get it to work, (and I had
to read the syntax correctly, sigh), but it does work pretty well.
