Is YDL 2.3 good for the iBook 2001 ?

First of all, excuse me for my very very bad english.
Last week i purchased YDL 2.3 for my iBook (500 mhz, 384 Ram) and suddenly i 
tried to install on it.
No problems with the installation and the problems went after.
Once i reboot my computer the screen resolution come back to 256 colors 
(1024x768) !
And the setting for the internal modem (rm /dev/modem ----ln -s /dev/ttyS0 
/dev/modem- settings good for others LinuxPPC distro) doesnt work well !
Finally Kde 3 is very very slow (quite unusable).
Can anyone help me ?
