Install YDL on Ext Firewire Drive

I tried to just _use_ a firewire drive and had tons of problems.  The 
whole thing would lock up tight (couldn't even ssh in) whenever I tried 
to copy or move or delete files from the firewire drives.
That was about 6 weeks ago, so maybe some improvement has been made with 
firewire support since then.  But last time I tried (on a Spring 2001 
iMac with 2 Maxtor 160G external FW drives) I had nothing but problems.
