2.2 install on B/W G3 freezes at setup_arch:bootmem

Dear Robert,
I doubt that.  
The machine in question boots Linux 2.2 kernel
(YDL 2.0 CD or hard disk) just fine, and boots MAcOS 9
perfectly.  It just can't boot any Linux 2.4.
Can a motherboard crack be so selective in its
effects?
