why not OS X?

No flames, please, I'm just giving you my experience with OS X and YDL
2.2:

I tried OS X for a couple of months, you know, all the built-in Apple &
BSD stuff, plus X Windows (rootless), fink and osxgnu software.

I finally gave up on it, as it's far too slow on my PowerBook G4 550
with 512 MB RAM - that should tell you something is very wrong with it.

Plus, lots of things just wouldn't work. I had lots of trouble with
fink software, it didn't work half the time.

Installing or compiling from source didn't work quite often.

All of the hardware is working on YDL, except the PCMCIA hard drive, but
I know what I need now (recompile the kernel with ide-cs support), and
then everything will work - screen, touchpad, USB mouse, sound, CD/DVD
(yes, automounting works), Airport wireless NIC, Gigabit ethernet, etc.
Everything except the software modem, which I can live without.

Plus, the machine screams on YDL 2.2 - NOT on OS X...

Sure, I could play Quicktime movies...sometimes. I tried again the
other day, and OS X was so slow I couldn't watch a trailer without tons
of pauses, stutters, etc. And NOTHING else was running.

OS X is broken. Maybe Apple will fix it, maybe not.

Linux is here today ;-)
