Dear Dennis.
Some moons ago, I used to use a tool called "netcfg" (or netconfig) to
do just that. It maintained a "list" of various settings, and in order to
change from one to another, you just "ran it" and clicked on the one
you want. (It was a "sort of" "x" application.)
The netconfig that YDL uses is nackered! You've already found out
that one must run it every time you wish to change the IP settings.
I have to do it a 'couple of times a day.

Tell you what, though. Now that you bring it up, I think I'll slide over
to the RPM find site and see if I can find the old "unknackered" version.
If I find it, I'll pass it on to you.
