USB zip drive access

What is the right manner to access an USB external zipdrive from within YDL?

Details: YDL 2.2 on iMac DVEdition, zipdrive is functional (works under
MacOS, but not from Linux or MOL), installed with package option
"Everything"

A note within older mailarchives mentions to try mounting /dev/sda, this did
not work (sda is anyway supposed to be scsi, I assume). Trying other
devicefiles like ttyUSB0 etc did also not give the needed results.
