How about gaim?

In linux, using gaim, you can chat with anyone on msn, yahoo, icq, aim, e=
tc...=20
Has lots of features and is very stable.

Course, you would both have to have an account on some service, but there=
 are=20
clients available for OS 9 for all of them.

My wife and I use msn - her on her pc, and me on my linux powerbook. :)
