KDE3 Issues

Morning, y'all.

On a B/W g3 350 with 512mb of ram, when I try to upgrade to KDE3 using the 
howto listed on YDLs site (downloading the rpms and rpm -Uvh) after blasting 
out gphoto and hotplug, it comes back up with the KDE3 splash, but kicker 
crashes every time.  It also did this on my 8600 when I had it.

Suggestions?
