On using PINE to access Sylpheed mailboxes:-

Just to point out, Mutt (www.mutt.org) supports MH, Maildir and Mbox
formats, and is more configurable (but harder to get started with) than
Pine.

You may want to check it out. Changed my email experience when I switched
to Mutt from PINE.
