Need to change my SOX?

SOX doesn't seem to want to play .wav files created by mpg321.
In some cases, it'll play up to a second of music before the
output degenerates to white noise; most of the time the hissing
starts right away. No error message.

I know the .wav files are OK because I can burn them onto a CD
and they play all right.
