Cube install

Recently I installed a minimal YDL2.3 on my Cube, but could only get 
it to proceed using text/safe mode.

I since had to reformat that drive and want to do a full install. Is 
text-safe *really* the only way to install off CD/OF Boot??

Cube 450Mhz, Stock ATI Rage 128 video, 1.5G RAM, 80G Barracuda IV (upgrade).
