X dies right at KDE desktop

Got 2.3 installed on my Cube *with video* Thanks to Clay Wright's 
awesome how-to.

When I ran startx, though, it went through all the motions till it 
got to bulding the actual KDE interface then sad

The application KBuildSycoca (kbuildsycoca) crashed and cause the 
signal 6 (SIGABRT).

An application terminates with a SIGABRT signal when it detects an 
internal inconsistency caused by a bug in the program.

...Then I clicked the backtrace tab, and it said

(no debug symbols found)

I clicked close and it went to Kandalf's tips. I closed that and got:

The application KDE Panel (kicker) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
An application mostly receives the signal SIGSEGV signal due to a bug 
in the application. The application was asked to save the documents.

Clicked close.

After a long while with a vibrant blue background, the screen changed 
to the YDL (retriever) blue gradient background, but there was no 
dock, icons or anything else.

Has anyone seen/fixed this?

Or am I in for a reinstall?
