Anti-aliasing fonts not working in OpenOffice 1.0.1

Hello:

I have sucessfully installed YDL 2.3 on my Powerbook Titanium. I have also just installed OpenOffice 1.0.1 - the issue is that the fonts are not anti-aliased. It is pretty difficult to read text, and I am wondering if there is a way round this. If anyone has a solution, he/she should make it very very simple, as I have been into Linux for barely 3 weeks.
