KDE, broken system fonts

Hi all!
I'm running YDL 2.3 on an iBook. After a number of failures, I managed to get
swedish keyboard functionality in all environments, but when I booted up the day
after that successful adjustment, the fonts in KDE seem to be totally messed up.
I can only get something like "Courier" fixed-width on menus etc. If i set Defaults
in control center, it acts like I have succeeded, but the fonts do not change, even
after X restart.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to begin troubleshooting this?
