YDL may not ship preconfigured conf files for snmpd (also, you should
try using net-snmp.. its the continuation of the UCD project in a more
"open" environment with more features and security fixes.. ucd-snmp
hasn't been updated in quite a while) What do the logs say? if it's
crashing it should report it there. Did you try running the damon from
the command line (not the startupscript)?
If it's not configured "snmpconf -g simple" should present you with a
bunch of the standard config options for the normal MIB's, after that
restart the snmpd service.
Also be sure to change all the community stings to non-trivial values :)
