I'm very happy with radmind (www.radmind.org) which does tripwaire like 
stuff, is a bit simpler to use, and keeps a copy of the files it's 
managing so you can simple issue one command to replace all affected 
files.  Used it in my macosx labs but it works on linux and solaris as 
well.  If you have any problems the develpeprs are very open to bug 
reports and patches.
