PowerBook and Yellow Dog Linux

Hi All,
            I am 14, a student at secondary school and have been using a
700mHz iBook in school for typing essays and using in computing classes,
but after it was nearly severely damaged, I "shat a brick and built a
mansion" so to speak and I have decided to leave the iBook at home and
buy a PowerBook 5300/1400 for school. The problem is I absolutely detest
any MacOS below X, which isn't great itself, but is sufficient. I came
across Yellow Dog Linux and want I am going to buy a 5300/1400 if I can
get a linux distro on it, but the 1400 and 5300 aren't supported, has
anybody been able to install any edition of Yellow Dog Linux on either
of these machines? And please ignore my age, I have done many Linux
installations on x86 systems.
