Have you tried deleting your 20GB unallocated partition and then immediately adding it back as a Linux drive w/ a / mount point(without any errors)? I thought I remember reading that the installer craps out on any partitions it has not created or that it senses any changes that have been made(in other words, set up one step after the other with no errors).
