Another thing that popped into my mid was the following. I think that you should see your printer under MOL whenever you have eth0 and netatalk configured. If this is a non-Appletalk printer I think it should not show up with the Chooser/Laserprinter utility. You said you could see the printer under MacOS ? Don't you see the printer in MOL ?
