mozilla 1.0--could not execute binary file

I can't find any help on the mozilla site, but I've tried installing
Mozilla 1.0 (the full tar.gz archive) with the terminal result of
"cannot execute binary file" after trying to run mozilla-install.
I created a fresh directory in /usr/bin called "/mozilla1.0" and
moved the archive into that from my /home/user/Downloads folder
before gunzipping it, following the how-to at mozilla.org's release
notes at:
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.0/#install
I changed the permissions to root, from the original owner, but that
didn't help.
Just hoping there might be an easy fix before this newbie trys
another avenue--it's a 12.5 mb download on 56k.
On a PowerMac 7500/200, YDL 2.2--if it means anything, all required
libraries are installed, as specified in the release notes.
Anyone else have this problem? Please help, or point me in the right
direction.
Ken
