Maybe you've upgraded gimp from 1.2 to 1.3, in which case apt and yum now
don't want to downgrade it in order to fullfill the dependency. If this is
it, then installing both 1.2 & 1.3 is the solution to your problem as it is
possible to have both coexist.

With yum, I don't know the way of doing it, nor if it's easy.
With apt, add "^gimp$" to the Allow-Duplicated packages in apt.conf thenI
think using "apt-get install gimp=<version>" should do it, unless rpm then
complains that a newer version is already installed, in which case...
With rpm directly : rpm -ivh --oldpackage /path/to/gimp-1.2-*.rpm
