BTW Andrew, I realized after the fact that this may have come across 
the wrong way, so don't take my message as being against you... just 
used your mail as a springboard to vent some annoyance that's built up 
over time due the hype from certain over-fanatical gentoo users.  Don't 
let me discourage you from trying it; you may find that you like it for 
other reasons.  I just wouldn't be expecting an enormous performance 
gain if I were you.  :)
