The "radeon" driver in XFree 4.3 is *supposed* to support the 9000. You might want to check the contents of /var/log/XFree86.*.log. In addition maybe try troubleshooting your config by using the "vesa" driver, This won't give you as good a performance as the "radeon" , but it will be considerably better than the "fbdev"
