YDL 3.0 on a WGS-8550 (Video Problems)

I installed YDL 3.0 on my WGS 8550.  Everything went without a hitch until I
tried to start up X windows.

>From the command line I type: startx

The screen goes blank, the mouse cursor appears, the YDL screen with the
startup icons appears...  then it goes blank and hangs.

I'm not sure if X is having problems or whether it is Gnome or KDE.  I'm not
knowledgable to even start looking to see where to troubleshoot.

Any tips or suggestions on where to start?
