yum/apt problem

I'm having trouble using yum or apt-get under YDL 3.0.  Somehow I did  
do one update/install, but since then I'm stuck:

[root@gibbs ~]# yum upgrade
Gathering package information from servers
Getting headers from: Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 base
Getting headers from: Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 updates
Finding updated packages
Downloading needed headers
getting /var/cache/yum/updates/headers/gaim-1-0.61-1a.ppc.hdr
ERROR: Url Return no Content-Length  - something is wrong
URL:  
http://ftp.yellowdoglinux.com/pub/yellowdog/yum/3.0/RPMS.updates/ 
headers/gaim-1-0.61-1a.ppc.hdr
[root@gibbs ~]#

I get various errors like this depending upon what I am trying to do.

If I use mozilla or what have you to get that URL, I have no problems  
(e.g, I can see that file).
I tried reinstalling yum, to no avail. I've read on here that apt-get  
doesn't seem to be working under YDL 3.0,
but yum is (right?), so here we are.
