Hello,

I have a beige G3/300 with 576 MB and a Rage 128 card that I use instead of the built-in Rage Pro.
My monitor is a Viewsonic A90 that I really like.

I installed 2.3 Monday night and spent last night configuring it.
I choose the A90 from the list of monitors, select standard 4x3 resolutions like 640, 800, 1024, 1152, and 1280, and a 24-bit depth.
I've used settings like this under MacOS without problem.
X refuses to start up.

I try to sort through XF86Config-4 to root out the problem, but I'm no expert at video settings.
Nothing looks really abnormal though.
With Xconfigurator I can create the failsafe settings, which works, but leaves me stuck at 1024x768.
Less than adequate for a 19" monitor.
I tried copying a few of the 1152 modelines from the backup of the previous config file, but that gave me a horizontally squished display with garish colors.

Any hints for troubleshooting this?
If I can't work it out I will try to post the exact error message from home.
One other thing, I have to check the "no video driver" box on BootX, else I get a 40-column (or thereabouts) display.

Thanks,
Tim
