Can't answer your question (I did not even unpack my Apple-one-button-button) 
but:
- AFAIK 3 button emulation is used to emulate button 3 on a two button mouse. 
I doubt it's of any use on a one button one.
- If you're serious about using Linux you should get yourself a 2 button 
mouse. By the way, Mac OS X also "requires" 2 buttons to work correctly. The 
reason why Apple continues shipping 1 button mice remains a mystery to me 
(designer wish?).
