3.0 and Oldworld machines?

Does the talk of a stripped down mini-distro targeted at
oldworld machines indicate that 3.0 will not install/run
on oldworld machines? I have Wallstreet powerbook running
2.3 which I'd like to buy 3.0 for when it's released.
