My tibook rev III does support mirroring using the latest benh kernel.
I have tried it successfully with a data projector (don't remember the
model, 1024x768 resolution anyway) at the time when I was using
2.4.20-ben5, I now using a patched ben8 but I have not tried it
recently.  The mirrored display is sclaed from 1280x854 so it looks
strange but nonetheless the whole thing is usable.

The only trick was that I had to reboot the machine with the data
projector on and plugged in.
